Nick Katers

Mr. Nick Katers, Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management, Appalachian State University.

Nick Katers has been the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management at Appalachian State University since March 2019.  In this role, he oversees the day-to-day operations all capital projects on Appalachian State through the Planning Design and Construction division.  Nick also manages Facilities Operations and New River Light and Power which supplies electricity to the university and much of the Town of Boone, NC.    Prior to taking the job at Appalachian State, Nick retired from the United States Army as a Colonel having served 28 years in the Army Corps of Engineers.  While in the Army, Nick served at all levels of construction and project management while overseeing numerous projects in both the United States and overseas. 

Mr. Katers holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.  He has an MBA from Arkansas State University, a Master of Arts in Operations Management from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and a Master of Arts in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1990.
