Computer information systems faculty members participate in AMCIS social project

Service work from Dr. Dawn Medlin and Dr. Jason Xiong, Appalachian State University faculty members in the Department of Computer Information Systems, and their Walker College of Business students was recently featured in a video that was part of the annual Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), held virtually August 9-13, 2021.

The video overviewed AMCIS' launch of a social project that develops technology-based solutions for issues affecting businesses and communities. The project aims to expand AMCIS impact and leave a positive digital footprint. Watch the video. Dr. Medlin's undergraduate capstone project participated in 2019 and Dr. Xiong led two teams in Spring 2021 that helped two beneficiaries in the conference host city of Montreal.

Dr. Lakshmi Iyer, acting associate dean of graduate programs and research in the Walker College, has served as co-chair of the AMCIS social project since its founding. Dr. Iyer is also a professor of computer information systems at Appalachian. "It has been privilege to work with our CIS students," said Dr. Iyer. "All beneficiaries have been very impressed with the work of our students."
