Jeff Moretz

Jeff Moretz is a Special Faculty Lecturer for CIS 1060 in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. He earned an Associate in Arts degree along with certificates in Computer Programming and Network & Cyber Security from Caldwell Community College before transferring to Appalachian State University. Inspired by an interest in both music and technology, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Recording and Production. His coursework included a minor in business, which introduced him to the Walker College of Business, where he entered the Accelerated Admissions program and earned his Master of Business Administration in Spring 2025. His background also includes internships with The Appalachian Theatre (Summer 2022) and a marketing internship in Summer 2023.

In addition to teaching, Jeff serves as a Computer Services Technician at Caldwell Community College (Watauga Campus). He brings over 15 years of experience in music education, seasonal work experience running live sound and lighting, and prior work as a production manager. Jeff also successfully operated his own home improvement business for over twenty years while attending college and raising a family. He still helps friends and family with construction projects.

Jeff’s research interests center on computer audio/video and recording technology, marketing, and emerging AI applications in these fields. His personal interests include building computers, music performance and instruction, farming, camping, and local historical preservation. Jeff is passionate about education and brings a patient, accessible teaching style to the classroom, specializing in breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand ideas.
