Dr. Sharpe joined the CIS team at Appalachian State after working with the University of Alabama and various organizations. During his tenure at the University of Alabama, he served as a professor of MIS in the Culverhouse College of Business, where he created and taught a variety of courses to undergraduate and graduate students. He also served as the director of the Randall Research Scholars Program, director of the Business Honors Program, director of the Emerging Scholars Program, and dean of the Honors College. He received the distinction of Emeritus Faculty at the University of Alabama in 2021.
Shane has published research in the Communications of the ACM, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Information Systems Audit and Control, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Information Resources Management, Journal of Systems Management, Journal of Software Maintenance, and the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies. Shane enriched the classroom environment through his extensive work as a business and technology consultant in concert with his academic experiences. He has also served as the director of engineering with Therapy Brands, as a special assistant to the CIO at Home Depot, and in multiple other roles in a variety of industries across his career.
