Dr. Shishi "Cecilia" Wu is an Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Massachusetts Boston, her M.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and her B.A. in Advertising from Xiamen University.
Her research focuses on how digital platforms and artificial intelligence shape user behavior and organizational decision-making. She studies short video platforms, social media governance, and AI in recruitment, applying methods such as machine learning, econometric modeling, and mixed-methods analysis. She has presented her work at leading conferences including CSWIM and MWAIS, and she serves as a reviewer for Technovation, Journal of Knowledge Management, ICIS, and PACIS.
She teaches courses across Information Systems, Marketing, and Operations Management, covering business programming, data analytics, and machine learning at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She has designed advanced analytics courses and supported a range of classes that integrate technical skills with managerial applications.
Before entering academia, Dr. Wu gained professional experience in public relations, insurance, and technology. She worked as a human resources manager, business analyst, and project manager, and she collaborated with technology firms on projects exploring AI-driven recruitment and its implications for efficiency and fairness.
