Dr. Pranith Abbaraju is an Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. He received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business at Clemson University.
Dr. Abbaraju’s research interests are in the areas of mobile app ecosystems, cybersecurity, and children's digital safety. He studies how app developers make strategic choices around third-party tools, privacy policies, and in-app advertising, and how those choices influence app success. He also explores how parents shape children’s digital use and cyber hygiene. Pranith brings a global perspective shaped by several years of industry experience working for multinational organizations such as Amazon.com, IBM, and two startups he co-founded. He strives to bring this experience into the classroom through a teaching philosophy centered on “encouraging, empowering, and engaging” students with hands-on learning and critical thinking.
Outside of work, Pranith enjoys kayaking, playing chess and racquetball, and spending quality time with his family, which includes a five-year-old Boston Terrier named Rowdy.
