Dr. Jeffrey Kaleta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems at Appalachian State University, where he teaches and develops courses in data analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data analytics. Since joining the University in 2019, he has played a central role in curriculum innovation, most notably as the course coordinator for CIS 1060, which has grown into a multi-campus, high-impact course with a student MOS Excel certification pass rate exceeding 95%.

Dr. Kaleta’s research examines human information behaviors, social media sentiment, and how individuals interact with technology and online environments. His work has appeared in journals such as Information Technology & People, Journal of Computer Information Systems, and Information Systems Management.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Kaleta held several industry roles in product development and continuous improvement—experience that he draws on to guide student projects with real-world impact. When he's not decoding the nuances of online consumer sentiment or wrangling Python code, Dr. Kaleta enjoys woodworking, photography, camping, and creating DIY slingshots.
