CIS Cybersecurity Programs

We're excited to inform you about a new concentration in Cybersecurity for CIS majors that began in Fall 2021.  In order to add the concentration to your CIS major, please make an appointment with a WCOB advisor.   So that our department can also track interest, please also email Samantha Williams (williamsse11@appstate.edu) and Dr. Hunsinger (hunsingerds@appstate.edu) if you are graduating in Fall 2021 or later and would like to pursue the Cybersecurity concentration. In addition to the CIS major core classes, to earn this concentration, you'll need to take the following courses:   
 

CIS Cybersecurity Concentration Required Courses (6 hours)

Take both of the following:

CIS 3740 - Audit & Cybersecurity Analytics

CIS 3840 - Managing Security

  

CIS Cybersecurity Concentration Elective Courses (3 hours)

Take one of the following:

CIS 3820- Ethics and Privacy

CIS 3870- Web and Mobile Development

CIS 3880- Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures

CIS 4620 - IS Strategy, Policy, and Governance 

CIS 4760- Global Blockchain for Business

 Current students who have already declared a major can switch to the Cybersecurity concentration by visiting the Walker College of Business Advising office.   Eligible current students who have not yet declared a major can declare their major here.
