Cybersecurity- Artificial Intelligence

Mountaineers lead the climb in AI- Major Begins Fall 2026

Artificial Intelligence is changing how organizations make decisions, serve customers, and strengthen communities. From data analysis to intelligent systems and ethical decision-making, AI is now a core business skill.

The Computer Information Systems Department in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University is excited to introduce new AI Concentrations launching in fall 2026. This concentration prepares students to use AI responsibly and effectively to solve real business problems, support smarter decisions, and create meaningful impact — not replace people. The AI Concentration is a 9-credit-hour program that allows CIS and Cybersecurity majors to build practical AI, analytics, and decision-making skills alongside their major coursework. The concentration is available to students majoring in Computer Information Systems (CIS) or Cybersecurity within the Walker College of Business.

Designed for CIS and Cybersecurity majors, the AI Concentration blends business knowledge with hands-on AI skills, analytics, and applied technologies that employers are actively seeking.
