CIS/C.A.R.E. Faculty Partner with New River Light and Power for continued research

As part of the Center for Analytics Research & Education (CARE) focus on doing research and analytics for good, CARE has partnered with New River Light and Power (NRLP) to conduct on-going research projects. One of the recent publications coming from this partnership is “Energy Audits and Efficiency Rebates Drive Energy Consumer Satisfaction” in Natural Gas & Electricity. Dr. Thomas Mueller, Marketing Manager and Research Affiliate with CARE as well as Professor of Advertising in the Department of Communication, was the lead author on this article. Executive Director for CARE and Professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems, Dr. Joseph Cazier, Chief Data Officer for CARE and Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems, Dr. Edgar Hassler and Dr. Jamie Russell, Director of Appalachian Energy Center and Associate Professor of Building Science and Research Affiliate with CARE, were also authors on the article.

This article discusses ways in which energy companies can communicate initiatives about environmental stewardship through a variety of outlets. NRLP used a survey of their customers to measure against variables in the “consumer perception of their energy partner” and “consumer response to energy incentives.” Through this study, NRLP found that communication materials that are open with customers about their environmental efforts increases the partnership between them and the business.

“Our work with NRLP paves the way for energy providers to build better relationships with the communities they serve and increase individual customer satisfaction. The energy industry is evolving. The insights we uncovered will help providers plot a better course for the future,” stated Hassler.
