Mountaineer Cybersecurity Club (MCC)
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Russell Haines
MCC is a student-led organization dedicated to helping members develop real-world cybersecurity skills through hands-on learning, collaboration, and competition. MCC provides opportunities to explore areas such as ethical hacking, network security, digital forensics, and cyber defense through workshops, Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges, and industry-focused events. Whether students are new to cybersecurity or looking to advance their technical expertise, MCC offers a supportive environment to build skills, gain experience, and connect with like-minded peers interested in careers in cybersecurity.

Honor Society
CIS Honor Society
Alpha Iota Mu (AIM) is an international honor society that recognizes outstanding academic achievement in the field of information management. Members of the Appalachian State University Chapter are students who have completed or are in the process of completing an undergraduate program of study in the field of computer information systems. CIS majors with an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher who have taken at least two CIS core courses are invited to join the honor society upon faculty nomination.
Cybersecurity Honor Society
Alpha Sigma Cyber (ASC) is a national honor society recognizing outstanding achievement in Cybersecurity. ASC celebrates students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership in cyber initiatives, and a commitment to ethical digital defense. Members gain access to professional networks, industry partnerships, leadership opportunities, and pathways to advanced study and career advancement. ASC recognizes and elevates exceptional Cybersecurity students who demonstrate academic excellence, ethical leadership, technical mastery, and a commitment to strengthening the digital world. ASC empowers emerging cyber professionals to lead with integrity, innovate with purpose, and defend the systems that shape our future. Cybersecurity majors with a 3.5 or greater overall GPA who have taken at least two Cybersecurity core courses are invited to join the honor society upon nomination by the faculty.
